The world of Slow Horses is about to explode again — and this time, no one is safe. After the nail-biting cliffhanger of Season 5, Apple TV+ has confirmed that Season 6 will push Jackson Lamb and his team of misfit spies to their breaking point.

When we last saw MI5’s most unwanted, Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) finally claimed the power she’d schemed for since Season 1 — the coveted First Desk. But with great power comes… absolute corruption? Actor Christopher Chung (Roddy Ho) teased that question in a new interview:
“Taverner’s got everything she’s ever wanted. The question is — what will she do with it? Absolute power has a way of destroying everything around it.”
Her rise came at a price. Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), ever the cynic, helped force her boss Claude Whelan out, promising to stay out of her way — if she did the same. But, as always in MI5, deals don’t last long.
What Season 6 Holds
A new synopsis hints at chaos: “Season six sees the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner entangles them in a deadly game of retaliation and revenge.”
That means betrayal from within, secrets resurfacing, and perhaps the fall of Slough House itself. The upcoming chapter draws from Mick Herron’s acclaimed novels Joe Country (2019) and Slough House (2021) — two of the darkest entries in the series.
Adding fuel to the fire, there’s a major creative shake-up behind the scenes. Longtime showrunner Will Smith steps down after Season 5, passing the torch to writer Gaby Chiappe for Season 6 and Ben Vanstone for the already-in-production Season 7.
Smith explained the timing in an interview with Deadline:
“Season 5 closes certain arcs that began in Season 1. It felt like the right moment to hand the show over — but the story is far from finished.”
