Jamie’s attempt to mend old wounds and care for Joanie gives the character a sense of full-circle redemption.
“He’s there to make amends and to put a lot of that to rest,” Heughan explained. “And I think the fans are going to feel the same. There’s a moment when Jamie, Claire, and Ian walk up towards Lallybroch, and fans are just going to be so happy to return home.”

“When I first read it, I was like, ‘Oh my God, how are we going to do this?’” she said with a laugh. “But working with David was incredible. He did such an amazing job. And Vanessa Coffey, our intimacy coordinator, was amazing too. It was one of those things where you get surprised by your character’s actions — even this deep into a show.”
For Balfe, that surprise was part of what kept Outlander so rich, even after ten years.
“Sometimes we do things in our lives that defy logic,” she said. “It’s good to be able to portray that — to show the contradictions, the flaws, the raw humanity.”
