Compton, California – July 21, 2025 – Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar has launched the “PGLang Summer Vibes” art camp for children aged 10 to 16 in Compton, California. Designed to encourage young people to express themselves through music, poetry, and visual arts, the program marks a new chapter in Kendrick’s efforts to uplift his hometown community.
A Creative Space for Kids
The six-week “PGLang Summer Vibes” camp, held at a Compton community center, offers classes in songwriting, poetry, and painting. Organized in collaboration with PGLang, the creative company co-founded by Kendrick, the program features workshops led by local artists, poets, and painters. “I want these kids to feel like they have a voice, that their stories matter,” Kendrick said at the opening event, which drew over 200 campers and parents.
Each week, campers participate in group projects, from crafting rap verses to designing visual art pieces, drawing inspiration from their personal experiences. Special workshops led by PGLang artists help students hone their storytelling skills through creative expression.
A Commitment to the Community
Kendrick has pledged to cover all costs for 100 campers from low-income backgrounds, ensuring that every child has access to the program. He also announced plans to produce a compilation album featuring the campers’ work, set for release later this year. All proceeds from the album will fund community arts programs in Compton.
A Broader Vision
“PGLang Summer Vibes” is just the beginning of Kendrick’s long-term plan to establish a permanent arts center in Compton. He is working with investors and local authorities to make this vision a reality by 2027. “Art is how we connect with each other, and I want Compton to be a creative hub for the next generation,” he said.
With “PGLang Summer Vibes,” Kendrick Lamar is continuing his mission to create not only world-changing music but also to inspire the next generation to do the same.
