What Fans Love in Demon Slayer that Should be in the Live-Action Adaptation

If we are to make a list of what made the fans hooked on Demon Slayer, the top three would be its Story, Visualization, and Speed Blitzing. Starting with the story, we are introduced to a sad introduction of our protagonist, Tanjiro, as he goes back home to see his family in a bloodied mess, and his only surviving sister, Nezuko, has been turned into a demon. He then went on an adventure with his sister, making sure she doesn’t become a mindless, blood thirsty monster while he undergoes training on slaying demons to find answers on how to cure his sister.

The story is cruel and sad, making people hooked and rooting for the protagonist, especially after they show off how good a person Tanjiro is and how evil the big bad guy, Muzan, is. But pairing the story with awesome action visualization is another one of the anime’s strong suits. Its artistic portrayal of water-style and flame-style swordsmanship techniques is more than just eye candy; it was a feast for the eyes. It stands out in a way that isn’t loud and attention-seeking, but as a form of showing off power in a fantastical way.

Now imagine that, but with a speed. It is very common to see in anime the indomitable speed of characters in action; Demon Slayer is no exception. In a live-action adaptation, it is hard to portray speed because of its realistic settings. Making speed look convincing is a challenge in itself. But in anime, it is easy because that’s where the imagination can go wild without the limitations of making things look or appear more realistic.

Though it is a gamble for Netflix to take up the challenge and create a live-action adaptation of an already beloved animated series, it is a gamble they are willing to take. They learn from their mistakes and know when to improve, which is why shows like One Piece, Avatar: the Last Airbender, and Alice in Borderland were successful. Who knows, we might see just how good Netflix can deliver with Demon Slayer.
