🎬 RIAN JOHNSON OPENS UP ABOUT HIS SCRAPPED ‘STAR WARS’ TRILOGY: A GALAXY THAT NEVER TOOK SHAPE… 👇

While Star Wars fans once buzzed with excitement over a new trilogy helmed by Knives Out director Rian Johnson, the truth — recently confirmed by Johnson himself — is more disappointing than expected: the trilogy never truly existed in a concrete form.

In a candid new interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson — who previously directed the controversial yet groundbreaking Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) — revealed that the much-rumored trilogy he was developing with Lucasfilm was, in fact, nothing more than a series of conceptual conversations. There were no scripts, no outlines, no treatments — just loose ideas discussed with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

“We had a great time working together. They said, ‘Let’s keep developing,’ and I said, ‘Great!’ But then Knives Out happened,” Johnson explained. “I went off and made Knives Out, and then I was off to the races, making murder mysteries.”

“Nothing really happened with it” — a casual remark that carries a heavy weight for fans hoping for something fresh in the Star Wars universe. Though the project never advanced beyond brainstorming, Johnson reaffirmed his love for the franchise and the community that surrounds it.

“I love the world. I love the people. I love Star Wars fans. I love the passion with which they engage in it,” he said. “There’s nothing like telling a story in this universe and having people genuinely connect with it and share that with you. It’s extraordinary.”

Despite the trilogy’s quiet demise, Johnson hasn’t shut the door on returning to Star Wars someday. For now, though, he’s focused on expanding his own creative universe through the success of Knives Out and Glass Onion.

“If down the line there’s an opportunity to do it, or something else in Star Wars, I’d be thrilled. But right now I’m doing my own stuff, and pretty happy.”
