Meghan Markle Appears to Mock Royal Life in Front of Prince Harry

Meghan Markle is carving out a new chapter in her career, most recently with the launch of her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan. But alongside her creative comeback, the Duchess of Sussex has also drawn attention for what many interpret as a pointed critique of royal life — delivered openly in front of her husband, Prince Harry.

The new Netflix show marks Meghan’s return to a space she says she deeply missed: creative freedom. In the closing moments of episode eight, Meghan becomes visibly emotional as she reflects on her personal journey and the sense of liberation she now feels. Seizing the moment, she contrasts her current life with the rigid structure and constraints she experienced while living as a working member of the British royal family.

She also uses the finale to spotlight her newly launched lifestyle brand, As Ever, framing it as part of a long-suppressed creative identity finally reclaimed.

“All of this is part of the creativity I’ve missed so much,” Meghan says. “Thank you for loving me and celebrating with me.”

During the scene, Prince Harry and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, appear in a show of support. As Meghan raises a glass in celebration, Harry is heard responding warmly: “Congratulations.”

Before marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan ran The Tig, a lifestyle blog focused on food, travel and wellness, from 2014 to 2017. She shut it down shortly before her royal wedding to fully commit to her new role within the monarchy.

“I loved The Tig, but I certainly loved my husband more,” Meghan said in a People interview published on March 3. “It was a choice I made at the time, and I don’t regret it for a second.”

While Meghan has repeatedly stated she does not regret stepping away from her creative pursuits to serve the royal family, her recent remarks suggest a renewed enthusiasm for reclaiming that side of herself — an enthusiasm she says Harry fully shares.

The comments, however, are likely to reignite debate in the UK, where critics argue Meghan continues to distance herself from royal life by subtly disparaging it — even as the past remains central to her public narrative.
