Outlander star Sam Heughan has hinted that his character Jamie Fraser and spouse Claire (Caitríona Balfe) may face another devastating separation in the eighth and concluding series of the popular Starz drama, reports the Daily Record.
The 45 year old Scottish actor, who has secured a fresh film project, revealed that the final instalment would portray his Highland warrior as “more fragile having more to lose”, ahead of prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood which is expected to feature a cruel twist.
He continued by discussing a potential split between the pair, explaining: “Having lost Claire about 50 times, he knows what it is to lose her and he will do anything to stop that from happening. So yeah, it’s been an amazing journey to go with them.”
Every series of Outlander has witnessed the main duo thrust into danger and divided by numerous external circumstances, yet it appears series eight may deliver even more upheaval.
He proceeded to discuss the major series seven cliffhanger, which implied their deceased daughter Faith Fraser had remarkably survived through a time-travelling intervention by Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon).
Heughan suggested the tune from series two, I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside, would serve as “the jumping off point for season eight”.
He further indicated the narrative would provide resolution as the programme will “explore that the faith of it all perhaps”.

Former Rebus actor Rankin, aged 42, revealed the challenges they faced, explaining it was “hard” since the series hadn’t completed adapting all the books, with novelist Diana Gabaldon still penning the 10th and concluding instalment.
He remarked: “And I think you know how do you tie up, you know, all of these stories and make a satisfying ending?”
