Netflix has confirmed it is developing a three-part documentary series that revisits the disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway, nearly two decades after her case drew worldwide media attention.

The series will explore the events surrounding Holloway’s disappearance during a high school graduation trip to Aruba in May 2005, when the 18-year-old failed to return home after the vacation. The case sparked extensive international coverage and public fascination that continued for years.

According to Netflix, the documentary — which currently does not have a public release date — aims to “revisit the case through the eyes of those closest to Natalee,” shedding new light on what happened during the days surrounding her disappearance as well as the ongoing impact on her family and community.

Natalee’s mother, Beth Holloway, is expected to appear in the project, providing candid interviews and insight into her relentless search for answers. The series will also include previously unreleased audio, interviews with investigators and others connected to the case, and archival material that has not been widely seen before.

The documentary is being directed by Dani Sloane and Matthew Galkin, whose credits include other high-profile true-crime documentaries. Netflix has said that additional details, including the official release date, will be announced at a later time.

Holloway’s disappearance remained a mystery for many years, and it wasn’t until 2023 that suspect Joran van der Sloot confessed to her killing as part of a plea deal in a separate crime. This new Netflix series is expected to revisit that development and the broader story behind what happened to Natalee.
