In the hours after the tragedy, a family member shared the painful memory of Jodie’s final phone call. She had called home to check on her kids, her voice filled with worry as the storm grew stronger around her. No one knew it would be the last time they would hear from her. Now, the memory of that call is both a comfort and a deep ache for the loved ones she left behind—a final moment of a mother thinking about her children as the unthinkable unfolded. 
FAIRVIEW, Okla. (KAKE) – A mother and her 13-year-old daughter were killed Thursday night in Oklahoma when a tornado hit their vehicle, authorities say.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol told KOCO that a woman was driving near Highway 60 and County Road 2435 in Major County at around 10 p.m. She was on the phone and the connection was lost. Troopers found the car with the two dead inside.
A family member identified the victims as 47-year-old Jodie Owens and her 13-year-old daughter, Lexi Owens.
“Jodie was on the phone with her kids telling them to take cover when the tornado struck her van taking both of them,” Jodie’s sister said on a GoFundMe page.
Jodie’s sister said Jodie had eight children and four grandchildren, with another grandchild on the way.
“If you knew Jodie, you know she never asked for anything for herself. She was always the one showing up for everyone else, at the PTA, at the school band cheering on Lexi on the drums, at church, in her neighborhood. She loved God, she loved her family, and she loved her community deeply.”

Thursday night’s storms spawned a total of seven tornado reports from the Texas Panhandle to south-central Kansas, CNN reported. Hail the size of golf balls or larger also pelted the region.
The storm also blew over a semi-trailer in Major County. In Grant County, Oklahoma, a reported tornado downed trees, power lines and damaged structures, according to reports from the National Weather Service.
Storms are expected to continue on Friday. Tornadoes are possible in the evening from Madison, Wisconsin down to Dallas.
