The crash occurred early that morning on State Highway 34 near County Road 2186, south of Greenville, as Austin was driving home after a night shift with the Kaufman Police Department.
Austin, a deputy chief with South Hunt County Fire Rescue and a police officer in Kaufman, lived to serve others. Colleagues described him as an exceptional leader who worked tirelessly for his community, balancing demanding roles with unwavering commitment.
