March 22, London — Prince William does not share his brother’s view that he is “trapped” within the monarchy, royal sources revealed, responding subtly but firmly to Prince Harry’s explosive remarks from his 2021 CBS interview.
According to senior Palace insiders, the Prince of Wales — now first in line to the throne following King Charles — has never felt imprisoned by duty. On the contrary, he embraces it.
“He’s a grandson who deeply respects the Queen’s sense of duty,” one aide said.
In the CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry expressed regret, saying he felt “trapped” inside royal life — and pitied both his father and brother for what he saw as their inability to “escape.”
“I was trapped but didn’t know it,” Harry said. “My father and my brother, they are trapped too. They can’t leave.”
But those close to William insist he views his royal role very differently. He accepts his path not as a burden, but as a responsibility he was born to fulfill — serving the Crown, the country, and, above all, the legacy of his late grandmother.
