Following King Charles III’s decision to strip Prince Andrew of all his royal titles and privileges, the family of Virginia Giuffre — the woman who accused him of sexual assault — publicly celebrated the move, calling it a long-overdue victory for survivors of abuse.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on October 31, 2025, that the King had “initiated a formal process” to remove the style, titles, and honours of the Duke of York. Andrew will now be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and is expected to vacate his long-held residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor. The official palace statement emphasised that while Andrew continues to deny the allegations, the decision reflects recognition of his “serious lapses of judgment.” It concluded with a powerful message of solidarity for “victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” a line that has drawn widespread attention for its gravity and tone.

Virginia Giuffre, who tragically took her own life in April 2025, accused Andrew of sexually assaulting her when she was 17 after being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has consistently and vehemently denied all allegations. In 2021, she filed a civil lawsuit in the United States, which was settled out of court in 2022 for an undisclosed sum. Despite this, Andrew maintained the settlement did not constitute any admission of guilt or liability.

Giuffre’s family issued a passionate statement following the announcement, describing it as a symbolic victory for Virginia and other survivors. “Today, an ordinary American girl from an ordinary American family brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage,” they declared. The statement praised her resilience and lifelong pursuit of accountability, vowing to continue her mission to expose others involved in Epstein’s network. They expressed hope that the same level of accountability would extend to all of Epstein’s “abusers and abetters,” including those still shielded by wealth and status.

Virginia’s brother, Sky Roberts, appeared on BBC Newsnight to react to the announcement. While he commended King Charles for his leadership and his acknowledgment of victims, he stressed that symbolic gestures were not enough. “It’s not enough, we have to have some sort of investigation that goes further into this,” he said, insisting that Andrew should face legal consequences rather than mere reputational sanctions. “He’s still walking around a free man… He needs to be behind bars, period.”

Reports indicate that Andrew will relocate to a smaller home on the Sandringham Estate, marking a dramatic fall from grace for the Queen’s once-favoured son. His removal from the Royal Lodge and the loss of his “Prince” title represent an unprecedented move by the monarchy, underlining King Charles’s intent to distance the institution from lingering scandals.
