URGENT UPDATE: PRAYERS NEEDED FOR OUR BRAVE MAYA GEBALA! 

Our hearts are heavy today as we share a critical update from the family of our 12-year-old warrior, Maya Gebala.  Despite her incredible courage and the tireless efforts of her medical team at BC Children’s Hospital, Maya’s road to recovery after the tragic Tumbler Ridge incident has hit a major, unexpected hurdle.

Doctors have confirmed that her long-awaited 4th major surgery—to place a prosthetic piece of her skull—has unfortunately been POSTPONED. The delay comes after the discovery of a serious complication: a leaking brain abscess in the center of her brain. This development has placed Maya back in a state of critical concern, and her medical team is working around the clock to manage this new infection. 

But even in the face of this heartbreaking setback, Maya continues to prove why she is a true hero. Her spirit remains UNBROKEN!  Her mother, Cia Edmonds, shared that despite being unable to speak, Maya is still fighting. She can move her arm and leg and even follow movement with her uninjured eye. These small victories are a testament to the “grit and determination” that defines this young girl.

Maya’s bravery has become a beacon of hope for everyone across North America.  Her actions—stepping forward to protect others during the tragedy—remind us all that true heroes come in all sizes. 

This is a deep, emotional blow to her family and all who care for her, but we must not lose hope. Maya needs a massive wave of support and collective love from her friends in the USA and Canada to help her through these incredibly difficult hours.
