Taylor Dearden knows how to let loose!
The 33-year-old actress opened up about filming the karaoke scene in the end credits of The Pitt’s season 2 finale during a panel at the 2026 PaleyFest LA on April 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
The scene shows Dearden’s Dr. Mel King and Isa Briones’ Dr. Trinity Santos singing “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette at a karaoke bar after their stressful shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center ended.
When moderator Joanna Robinson asked Dearden about the scene, she said she “didn’t know it was going to happen.”

“It wasn’t in the script,” the actress said. “Isa was like, ‘What are you going to wear for the karaoke thing?’ What now? She’s like, ‘The karaoke thing.’ And I’m like, ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about.’ And then I found out and we had a blast.”
The daughter of Bryan Cranston and Robin Dearden continued to say that the scene only required two takes.
Show creator R. Scott Gemmill, who also participated in the panel along with Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa, said he picked the song but let Dearden and Briones “do whatever they want” in the scene.
The season 2 finale, which aired April 16, sees Santos inviting Mel to get a drink towards the end of their shift after Mel finds out she has to do another deposition. “Do you like karaoke?” Santos asks, to which Mel replies, “You do karaoke?”
“Well, what I do is more like primal scream therapy. There’s nothing like getting wasted and just absolutely wailing to shake off a s— show like today,” Santos says.

“I could use a fun night,” Mel admits and the other doctor adds, “You and me both, sister.”
As for the karaoke scene at the end, the two doctors sing the 1995 rock song as a duet with fun choreography. At one point, Santos helps Mel unbraid her hair so they can both whip their heads around.

Mel also has a tight connection with Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) in the series. The two are reunited in the first episode of the sophomore season after Langdon is ousted from the hospital for stealing drugs from a patient.
The American Vandal alum described Mel and Langdon’s reunion as “sweet” in a previous interview with PEOPLE.
“I just thought it was sweet. Even though she knew him for one day, 10 months ago, he’s still someone who made a mentor impact on her,” she said. “I think getting someone back who feels like they might have a little bit more of an idea of who Mel is, was like, ‘Oh, I needed that validation of another human getting her.’ “
Dearden shared that she doesn’t see the duo’s relationship as romantic. “Platonic relationships are not shown enough. One of my best friends is a guy. It’s really sweet as it is,” she said.
