TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Authorities presented a timeline of what occurred the night Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her home near Tucson, Arizona.
In a Thursday news conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos laid out what his agency has pieced together based on data from various electronic devices in the 84-year-old’s home.
January 31 – 9:48 p.m.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area, when her children dropped her off after dinner.
Her garage door opened at 9:48 p.m. and closed two minutes later.
“It’s at that time we assume Nancy is home, and probably going to bed,” Nanos said.
February 1 – 1:47 a.m.
Guthrie’s doorbell camera disconnected.
2:12 a.m.
“At 2:12 a.m., software detects a person on a camera,” Nanos said. “But there’s no video available. They had no subscription, and therefore (the footage) would rewrite itself.”
Nanos said investigators are still working to analyze the data from the camera. He said the movement detected could have been an animal, but there is no way to know for sure.
“We don’t know that. We just have no video,” Nanos said. “But we’re not giving up on that.”
2:28 a.m.
Data from the app for Guthrie’s pacemaker showed the device disconnected from her phone.
11:56 a.m.
Guthrie’s family returned to the home to check on her and discovered her missing.
12:03 p.m.
Family members called 911 to report her disappearance.
Deputies arrived at the home around 10 minutes later, Nanos said.
Latest updates on the investigation
Nanos confirmed in a news conference Thursday that blood found on the porch of the home belonged to Guthrie. He also shot down “reckless” false reports of a suspect being identified in the case.
The sheriff’s office previously acknowledged unverified ransom notes that were sent to media outlets. A spokesperson for the FBI said one person was arrested for making a fake ransom note.
Nanos said he believes Guthrie is “still out there,” and the FBI announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.
Authorities said Guthrie is of sound mind with a physical disability that affects her mobility. She was described as “a white female, 84 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches, medium build, brown over blue” with a pacemaker and heart problems, according to dispatch audio from the day she was reported missing.
She is believed to be without life-saving medication.
